Completion of construction — III quarter of 2010

Upon construction completion there will be two kilometers of a new embankment. The traffic will run in two directions with three lanes in each of them. This will considerably increase the throughput of Primorsky Prospect that is a continuation of the six-lane Vyborgskaya embankment. The traffic on the embankment will be constant. Instead of traffic lights the project provides for two pedestrian bridges and an underground crossing at the 3rd Elagin Bridge.

Construction of the underground pedestrian crossing across Primorsky Prospect at the 3rd Elagin Bridge started in III quarter of 2008. The official opening of the crossing took place on June 2, 2010. Within the framework of the subcontract works the design part was performed by Trest Lenmostostroy CJSC. The utility networks were laid by Saint Petersburg Mostotrest SUE, the finishing works – by SK Svet Ltd. The tunnel is 40 m long, 7 m wide and 3 m high. The pedestrian tunnel was built in an open pit with a land cofferdam in two stages to preserve uninterrupted two-way traffic on Primorsky Prospect. The tunnel construction was caused by the need to optimize transport flows and to ensure safety of pedestrians and cyclists. The crossing is equipped with special ramps for convenience of people with disabilities.

Reconstruction of the 3rd Elagin Bridge started in III quarter of 2009. The subcontractor was Trest Lenmostostroy CJSC. Within the framework of the reconstruction the old bridge was dismantled and a new one was built. The bridge is 76 m long and 13 m wide. Due to the need to ensure access of holidaymakers to the Central Park of Culture and Rest from the side of Primorsky Prospect during the entire period   of   reconstruction a temporary transport-pedestrian bridge was built upstream of the old bridge.
